Video Encoder/Codec

Antrica is an industry leading manufacturer and supplier of hardware video encoders & codecs, and vide decoders and codecs. Operating on a global scale, Antrica have been an established and respected brand in this industry for 15 years. Antrica’s products are renowned for high quality, high performance and adaptability, making them the ideal choice for all encoding and decoding requirements.

A video encoder / codec is a piece of electronic hardware (electronic circuit) or software that compresses digital video into either an H.264 or H.265 format. It converts uncompressed video to a compressed format which is then sent over a network as an IP stream, where it can be recorded then decoded / uncompressed & viewed elsewhere. An encoder requires an ‘input’ for the video – examples of these include HDMI, HD-SDI , Composite/CVBS, DVI, VGA.

To put this into context, uncompressed HD video would require a bandwidth of 3,000,000,000 bits per second (3GBits/sec) in a cable or network . Current LAN networks support a MAXIMUM of 1,000,000,000 (1 GBit/s) bits per second. So, by using compression, an Encoder can take uncompressed video and reduce this to a range of data rates between typically 500,000 and 20,0000,000 (500kbits/sec – 20Mbits/sec) bits per second. These data rates allow compressed video to share network space on existing LAN’s WAN’s with computer and other LAN traffic.
A common example application is when an older CCTV PTZ camera/s needs upgrading or putting onto a newer IP network for remote viewing over a network. Rather than changing the whole system, an encoder can be connected to provide IP connectivity to that camera.
Another application is encoding a PC screen for litigation / recording or monitoring purposes. These IP video streams can then be integrated into a VMS (video management software) where they can be recorded and monitored by other people.

The ANT-3xxxx range is fully ONVIF Profile S & G Compliant.

A fully ONVIF encoder will 100% work as ONVIF guarantees compatibility (ANT-3XXXX range). However, if you need a ‘view only’ stream and can live without ONVIF discovery then we have the ANT-2XXX range which can sometimes integrate. We can provide a public IP stream for you to test if you need.

Yes, we do for larger projects. We also offer a remote way of testing the stream’s integration.

Any H.265 option will be suitable.

The ANT-36100, as it has alarm/serial data controls, as well as PoE, and is a more industrial-type decoder.

Yes. Providing you have anti-static handling procedures in place, these can be used in any applications where it can be ‘housed’.

This is due to the fact we use low bit rates and compression, so we need at least 1-2 frames for encoding. Decoders need buffering to work, so most latency is in the decoder end.

Yes and no. Any decoding and re-encoding potentially reduces the quality, but using sufficiently high bit rates will allow the quality to look as good as the original.

Yes, these are intended to be low-latency wireless links with Video in and Video out.

Some of our decoders don’t have HD-SDI as an output. These converters offer a solution to have an HD-SDI output when required.
