Antrica is an industry leading manufacturer and supplier of hardware video encoders & decoders who have been a well known name in this industry for 15 years. Antrica are specialists in this niche video over IP industry and supply to a range of markets worldwide. Their products are set apart from the competition in terms of reliability, performance, integration, including Power over Ethernet connection and compatibility.
Power over Ethernet (PoE) is a technology that lets network cables carry electrical power. Usually an encoder requires a power connection, and a network (ethernet) connection. However, if the encoder or camera is PoE enabled, only the network connection needs to be made, as it will receive its electrical power from this cable as well. This often keeps installation simple and cabling costs to a minimum, so it is a popular choice in products.
PoE has a few versions, but generally carries 48 volts to allow for power over long cable runs such as up to 100m. The equivalent 12v DC cable run would require very heavy cables to avoid dropping too much voltage over the 100m.
PoE has two main power standards ; most Antrica products only need the basic PoE, but occasionally PoE+ higher power may be required, particularly with PTZ cameras and heft motors.
